Access by Air

 

Aveiro is located about 60 Km South of Oporto (Porto) and 260 Km North of Lisbon (Lisboa), where the nearest airports are located. From these airports, Aveiro is easily reached by train or car.

 

  • If you arrive to Oporto Airport:

    • you may access the Campanhã railway station by underground (ca. 30-45 minutes) or taxi (ca. 20 minutes, without traffic jams).

    • from Campanhã  to Aveiro railway station it takes about 45-60 minutes, with trains about twice an hour.

 

  • If you arrive to Lisbon Airport,

    • you may access the Oriente railway station by underground (ca. 10-20 minutes) or taxi (the trip should take about 10 minutes, depending strongly on traffic).

    • from the Oriente railway station it takes about 2h30-3h to reach Aveiro railway station, using the fast trains (Alfa or Intercidades).

 

 

Railway Connections

 

The train is probably the best way to travel to Aveiro. With many daily connections starting from Lisbon and Oporto, timetables are available at the site of the Portuguese Railways (CP) where you can also buy your tickets online.

 

 

Road Connections

 

- From Oporto take highway A1 to Lisbon. After ca. 70 km, take the exit ‘Aveiro’ and then follow the ‘Aveiro’ directions.

- From Lisbon take the highway A1, direction ‘Norte’. After about 260 km, take the exit ‘Aveiro-Sul’ and follow the ‘Aveiro’ directions.

- From Vigo/Spain to Oporto, the A3 highway is the best road connection. From Oporto you should follow the direction A1 to Lisbon.

- From Salamanca/Spain to Aveiro, the A25 highway is the best road connection.

Further connections to Spain by highway include A6 (Lisbon-Badajoz) and “Via do Infante” (the highway A22 from Faro to Spain/Sevilla). From A22 you should follow the direction A2 to Lisbon and afterwards the direction A1 to Oporto.

 

 

Transports within Aveiro

 

All hotels within Aveiro, the railway station, the University of Aveiro and most points of interest are within walking distance (30 min max). Aveiro also has a public transport system.
